Newly engaged to Christopher Manzuk, Suzanne Shearer had plenty of time to plan for her upcoming August wedding, but "didn't know where to start." With engagement ring on hand, wedding gown in hand, but still without a clue, Suzanne sought out her talented coworker, Michelle Horner, to assist in the wedding planning. Being a Martha Stewart aspirant, Michelle had much experience utilizing her creative skills and was up for the to-be-bride's challenge.
Suzanne struggled with imagining her special day and, therefore, Michelle's first to-do was to establish an overall vision. As building blocks for creating a mental picture, she considered Suzanne's personality, age, favorite colors, and budget. In addition, a previously selected wedding gown served as inspiration for the wedding theme.
Michelle and Suzanne were able to make weekly wedding progress as they committed to meeting every other Thursday for ten months. However, the work didn't end there for Michelle. From shopping for bridesmaid dresses to creating hand-made invitations, Michelle was extensively involved. Among others, her daily responsibilities became trips to the library, craft stores, and scrap-booking suppliers.
Although somewhat reluctant to partake, Michelle encouraged Suzanne to assist in making the invitations and favors. It was challenging at first, however, Suzanne became proud of taking wedding preparations into her own hands.
Reflecting on the planning experience, Michelle encourages brides to consider all options. "Remember the wedding is your own. Anything can be done as long as you pull it off with confidence." She also suggests brides to "consider ways for your personality to shine through."
Come August 19, 2006, Suzanne's wedding day "flew by" flawlessly thanks to Michelle's meticulous planning. "Obviously, I was very appreciative of her help," commented Suzanne of her friend. For Michelle, it was rewarding to witness the bride's happiness as her dreams came true.
As the anticipation of her "big day" faded into a "sigh of relief," Suzanne remarked, "It was everything I wanted and more!"
