The Vision

Gina Bombin-Wilk of SRE Event Planning was inspired by the vibrant concept, “Summer Sunset,” for our spring/summer 2026 Southwest Michigan cover shoot. Her goal was to create something that felt lively and playful, while still holding onto a sense of timeless romance. “I wanted this shoot to be bright and fun, yet have an old world vibe,” Gina shares. Through a dynamic, sunset-inspired color palette and thoughtfully layered details, the design highlights how bold color can elevate a wedding without losing its classic appeal, resulting in a celebration that feels both joyful and elegantly refined!

The Venue

The Loading Dock in Buchanan, Michigan set the tone for the Summer Sunset shoot with its striking industrial charm and thoughtfully layered design. The expansive space, complete with floor-to-ceiling windows, allowed natural light to pour in, creating a soft, luminous atmosphere throughout the day—beautifully captured by Trysh Jaeger Photography. Rich textures and architectural details, especially the aged brick walls, added depth and visual interest at every turn. As Gina noted, “The old brick walls and large windows gave us an old world feel,” making the venue a seamless fit for a concept that blended vibrant energy with timeless romance.

The Florals

The florals from Flowers by Anna embraced a romantic palette of blush, soft pinks and peach tones, echoing the fresh, vibrant energy of the overall design. Lush arrangements were layered throughout the space, with large statement pieces displayed on pedestals at the ceremony, complemented by floral boxes lining the front of the stage. The reception design continued that sense of abundance, with a grand centerpiece adorning the guest table while the head table featured whimsical, cascading florals that felt both organic and elevated.

The Décor

The décor for our summery shoot embraced a bright, vivid color palette that beautifully contrasted with the venue’s industrial backdrop. Layered textures and thoughtful details brought depth to the design, from warm wood tones to delicate glass elements that echoed the shoot’s old-world influence. Gina shares, “I rented the perfect wood chairs from AAYS to give the continued look of the old-world while matching the wood tones with the natural caning on the votive holders and flower boxes by the altar area.” The pink etched goblets, also from AAYS Event Rentals, added a soft pop of color while enhancing the romantic, vintage-inspired aesthetic. Flowing drapery softened the ceremony space and diffused the natural light, while statement elements like a grand seating chart—a collaboration between Gina and Evermere Collection—offered a modern, interactive touch for guests.

The Looks

The bridal looks beautifully reflected the balance of tradition and individuality woven throughout this shoot. Featuring three gowns from Belle Amour Bridal, each look offered a unique take on bridal style. The ceremony gown—a Belle Amour exclusive—made a statement with its ballgown silhouette adorned in allover peach and blush florals, complete with removable sleeves. “The main dress was chosen to provide a beautiful alternative to choosing a traditional dress,” Gina explains. For the reception, the bride changed into a second non-traditional ensemble featuring a blush tulle skirt paired with a fitted floral bodice in soft blush and lavender tones, while the third gown embraced a more classic aesthetic with an A-line silhouette, airy tulle skirt and delicate floral lace detailing. The groom complemented the palette in a tan suit with a blush tie from SuitShop. The model's hair styling by Blushing Beauty & Co featured an elevated yet relaxed updo with soft, face-framing curls, while True Beauty by Dana completed the look with romantic, peach-toned makeup—creating a finish that felt fresh, radiant and effortlessly elegant!

The Cake

The cake design offered a fresh take on tradition, blending vintage charm with a modern, on-trend silhouette. Created by C'est La Vie Cakes, the blush-toned runner cake served as a unique alternative to a classic tiered confection. Its delicate vintage piping added texture and an old-world elegance that perfectly complemented the overall aesthetic. Beyond its beautiful design, the cake was just as memorable in taste, featuring flavors of red velvet and champagne with raspberry!

The Stationery & Signage

The stationery and signage embraced a playful yet thoughtfully curated approach, balancing whimsy with elevated design. Created by Evermere Collection, the suite featured a blush, peach and sage green palette carried throughout every detail, from the invitation suite to day-of pieces. Velvet textures and intricate scalloped borders set the tone for a tactile, elevated experience, while charming die-cut cat motifs added a lighthearted touch that echoed the illustrated feline featured on the signature drink sign. Even the seating chart took on a non-traditional form while still feeling perfectly aligned with its vibrant color story and die-cut escort cards.
