This Ohio Celebration Blossoms with Flower Power Vibes: The Real Wedding of Katie and Gordon Burns

Photos BySwatch Studios

Katie and Gordon met while working as interns for a minor league baseball team. They decided to start dating, and after a while, Gordon decided it was time to propose. The happy couple went on a vacation to Orlando in 2021. Gordon's uncles have a beautiful AirBnB on the water, and he proposed to Katie the first night they spent there!

"I had no clue what I wanted in a wedding dress when I first got engaged. It was the only thing I was stumped on," Katie admits. She ended up choosing the second dress she tried on the day she went dress hunting. The A-line style allowed her to dance and move freely on her wedding day. Katie also fell in love with the open-back design!

Since Katie works in the wedding industry, planning her dream wedding came easily to her. "I have always been drawn to bright color palettes," Katie shares. "I wanted it to be a very '70s flower power type of vibe with pinks, oranges and creams." Katie also wanted to incorporated plenty of flowers in her wedding to help amplify this theme. When it came to choosing vendors to help them bring this wedding to life, Katie naturally gravitated toward vendors she had worked with before since she was already a fan of their work!

The venue was possibly the easiest choice for the couple, since Katie has been the coordinator there since 2019! "I knew from the moment I started working there that I would be married there one day," Katie raves. The venue made the planning process easy for Katie and Gordon, and their guests loved the historic feel of the building. The vintage brick details helped amplify the '70s theme that this happy couple planned, too!

What we love

To honor her parents, Katie and Gordon tied the knot on May 27th. On the day they got married, Katie's parents had been married for thirty-four years. They even had her parents dance to their first dance song—"I Can't Help Falling in Love" by Elvis—during their reception!

Advice from the Couple

Katie and Gordon advise, "Remember that it is YOUR wedding day. Involving too many opinions will ruin the fun and enjoyment of the planning process! Also…don’t forget to eat on your wedding day even if you are too anxious to have an appetite."
