Sunflowers and Sunshine Fill this Mishawaka Celebration: The Real Wedding of Kari and David Emery

When Kari saw David in a Chicago Cubs hoodie on his online profile, Kari just had to message him because she loves baseball! They met a week later and the rest is history. On a group trip to Colorado, David decided to propose to Kari on top of Keystone Mountain. He is truly the master of surprises since he hid it from not just Kari but their whole group!

Unlike most brides, Kari went into bridal outfit shopping knowing she didn't want a dress. "I didn’t know the exact style of jumpsuit I was looking for, I just knew I wasn’t looking for a dress," Kari shares. She ended up getting a chiffon, off-the-shoulder jumpsuit that looks absolutely stunning on her! We especially love the way the flirty neckline mimics the lapels on a classic suit.

Sine Kari was getting married in her mid-thirties, she felt she had plenty of time to create her wedding design. She knew she wanted sunflowers to be a central part of the wedding theme. With that idea in mind, Kari hit Pinterest and started pinning things together until she thought it was perfect! Knowing that she would be wed in the fall in a venue that had plenty of windows that overlooked the fall scenery, Kari picked a fall color scheme, which highlighted the sunflowers beautifully.

Planning was actually kind of chaotic for Kari, who admits she kind of flew by the seat of her pants. Luckily, they had plenty of connections and familial recommendations when it came to vendors! In fact, the only vendor they had not previously met was their photographer, which made planning much easier. Kari and David were able to collaborate with this team and make sure their big day went off exactly how they imagined it!

What We Love

Kari and David didn't go a traditional route with their wedding party. They made sure to pick people who poured into them both as people and as a couple. However, they didn't exclusively choose who stood on what side by gender, like most couples do. "My oldest brother officiated the wedding, my other brother, and my two sister in laws stood on my side. David’s brother, sister, brother in law and sister in law stood on his side," Kari explains. "Having the support of those closest to us made the day that much more special."
