Rustic Radiance: WeddingDay’s Exclusive Chicago Cover Shoot

The Vision

The vision for our Chicago fall/winter cover shoot, crafted by planner Nikki Rodgers of The Serendipity Collective, centered on a concept she calls Rustic Radiance—where vibrant tones meet vintage textures. Nikki explains that she “wanted to create a bright and fun aesthetic that complemented the venue’s rustic brick charm, bringing a lively contrast that felt both fresh and inviting.” Designed to be bold, vibrant and a little unexpected, the shoot showcased how an unconventional color palette can harmonize beautifully without relying on traditional white or ivory tones!

The Venue

The charm of Blumen Gardens was impossible to resist! Its exposed brick walls and rustic architectural details set the perfect stage for a bright and playful design. These features inspired a lively, fun aesthetic that made the space feel vibrant and full of energy, allowing every element of the shoot to shine against the warm, textured backdrop—beautifully captured by Danielle Schury Photography.

The Décor

Nearly every tabletop element was a carefully chosen rental, from the linens provided by Windy City Linen to the copper charger plates, black china, copper flatware and distinctive goblets and stemware sourced from AAYS Event Rentals. Hedonia Flowers also contributed to the décor, providing statement pieces such as candelabras that added height and drama to the tablescapes. Rather than focusing on current trends, the design highlighted bold, unconventional choices that showed how a wedding can step outside traditional norms while remaining elegant and cohesive. Deep jewel tones—burgundy, hunter green, navy and eggplant—were accented with pops of pink, teal and yellow, creating a rich, layered palette!

The Florals

Hedonia Flowers truly brought this colorful vision to life, creating stunning arrangements that elevated every part of the shoot—from the outdoor ceremony florals and tall centerpieces to the seating chart display and cascading sweetheart table arrangements. This talented duo incorporated bright, playful blooms with hints of deeper jewel tones, accented by pops of pink, teal and yellow. Their designs all perfectly complemented the lush velvet accents in the linens and other décor elements. And we especially love the vibrant, playful bouquet featuring individually glued orchids, which added a unique and whimsical touch to the overall look!

The Looks

CBTK Bridal provided three gorgeous dresses, each tailored to its specific setting: a one-shoulder silk gown with floral appliqués for the ceremony, an off-the-shoulder lace gown with a long train for the indoor reception and a playful shorter dress for the sweetheart table and cake area. Our model's hair was styled by Appease Inc. in a relaxed low bun for the ceremony and then transitioned into a half-up curled look for the reception. Her makeup was kept natural and understated, highlighting her features without overpowering the looks. Our groom completed the aesthetic in a teal suit and burgundy tie, perfectly tying into the vibrant, jewel-toned color palette of the shoot!

The Cake

Mad Batter Bakery & Confections brought the cake vision to life with incredible artistry and attention to detail. Each tier of the three-tiered cake featured a rich navy base with striking gold accents, complemented by bright, playful gumpaste florals that mirrored the shoot’s vibrant color palette. A colorful, patterned tablecloth completed the display, perfectly tying the cake into the overall design and making it a show-stopping centerpiece!

The Stationery

Design Pro perfectly captured the shoot’s color palette and aesthetic with their vibrant floral stationery pieces! The Serendipity Collective enhanced the presentation with antique gold and midnight blue velvet frames for the table numbers and a simple gold frame for the bar signage. The creative place card display, paired with florals and cloche dishes in collaboration with Hedonia Flowers, was the real showstopper!
