Emily and Patrick's love story started at a mutual friend's birthday celebration, where the two first met. What began as a casual introduction soon grew into something more! While many proposals are meticulously planned with glamorous outfits and scenic backdrops, Patrick chose a moment that perfectly reflected their relationship—completely genuine and wonderfully unexpected. The couple was staying at Patrick's sister's home in Texas before leaving for a family cruise to Galveston. Emily was enjoying breakfast in her pajamas, with no idea that one of the biggest moments of her life was about to happen. "Oh my goodness—in a way that was very us," Emily laughs. "It was first thing in the morning and I was still in my PJ's eating breakfast, hair and teeth unbrushed, and I was telling him about how I'd had a dream that he'd broken up with me. He then said, 'I actually had something to ask you' and got down on one knee. I mostly blacked out after that but remember spitting out the bite of breakfast sandwich I'd had in my mouth."

When it came time to choose the engagement ring, the couple took a collaborative approach. Emily had a clear vision of the style she loved, so the pair visited a jeweler together to narrow down the details before Patrick took over the rest of the process. "I had a good idea of what I wanted beforehand, so we went to the jeweler and looked together," Emily shares. "I basically figured out the details of what I liked and Pat took it from there!" We love the timeless solitaire diamond and elegant gold band!

Finding the right photographer was an easy decision after Emily and her mom met Elisha of Elisha Kaldahl Photography at a bridal show. "We looked more at her previous work, and it was so beautiful, we knew she was the perfect fit!" Emily raves.

For the engagement session location, Patrick suggested an outdoor spot near the area where he grew up. After seeing only a handful of photos taken there, Emily agreed it was worth exploring—and it couldn't have been a better choice. "Pat actually recommended it," she says. "He grew up in the area so he was a lot more familiar, and I knew we wanted something outdoors... It turned out to be just what we wanted!"

Emily envisioned a classic, romantic style for their engagement portraits and enlisted one of her closest friends to help bring it to life. "My dear friend and bridesmaid Sam and her sweet baby boy Calvin went to the mall with me!" she says. "I had an idea of the look I wanted from looking on Pinterest, but needed help finding the right dress. Once I had the dress I was able to find the right accessories." The finished look perfectly complemented the natural surroundings and timeless feel of their session!

Like many engaged couples, Emily quickly discovered that wedding planning comes with a few surprises—especially when it comes to budgeting. "I had an idea but a lot of it changed after I did more digging and found out more about wedding costs," Emily admits. "Weddings are a lot! I had a bit of a panic attack but then Pat calmed me down, explaining that he was sure there were more venues to look at and he would ask around since he has more connections in the area that would know about venues. We were able to find one that we loved and fit the aesthetic we were hoping for!"

With most of the major planning already complete, the couple has been able to enjoy the engagement season without feeling rushed. "It has been going overall pretty well!" Emily shares. "We jumped on it pretty quickly, which made things feel a lot less stressful since it wasn't a time crunch. Now we have mostly everything done besides some minor details!"
