Some love stories begin with a grand gesture, while others start with something much simpler—like being assigned to the same group project. For Lauren and Cade, what seemed like a series of "random" pairings in their college classes turned into a relationship built on shared passions, plenty of laughter and a future they never saw coming! "We met in our education classes in college, where we kept getting paired up together for group projects," Lauren shares. "What started as repeated 'random' partner assignments turned into us actually getting to know each other and bonding over social studies and teaching." Today, the two are both social studies teachers in Indianapolis, making their journey from classmates to colleagues feel like the perfect full-circle moment!

Although the couple had talked about marriage, Cade was determined to keep the proposal a surprise. Lauren had just returned home from a work trip when Cade and her family convinced her to join them for what she believed was an early Mother's Day celebration at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. As they strolled near the beautiful Lily House, everything changed in an instant. "There he was on one knee," Lauren recalls. "I was completely shocked in the best way. It was such a thoughtful surprise, and having all of our favorite people there made it feel even more special. Definitely a moment I'll never forget!" Hidden just out of sight were family, friends and a photographer, all waiting to witness one of the biggest moments of their lives together.

Rather than choosing the ring entirely on his own, Cade found a thoughtful balance between surprise and collaboration. Together, the couple custom designed Lauren's engagement ring, though she only saw a 3D model before the proposal. "I've always known I wanted something timeless—a gold classic band with a teardrop diamond," Lauren says. "I love the idea that I can add different bands throughout our life to represent different seasons, milestones and memories, while the center stone stays classic and meaningful." Seeing the finished ring for the first time on the day of the proposal made the experience even more unforgettable!

The photographer, Elisha Kaldahl Photography, was actually selected by Cade and his sister, Aldon, as part of planning the surprise proposal. Lauren loved hearing afterward how intentional Cade had been in finding someone who would make the entire experience feel relaxed and authentic. We think she captured their sweet love story perfectly!

For their attire, Lauren envisioned a look that felt classic with just the right amount of romance. She wore a simple strapless dress paired with soft, loose curls for an effortless bridal-inspired style. "I wanted something that felt like me, but a little elevated for such a special season in life," she explains.

As they prepare for their fall wedding, Lauren and Cade have focused on creating a celebration centered around the people they love most. Choosing a venue close to home made it easier for family and friends to be part of their day, while the season itself was an easy decision. "I've always loved autumn, so a fall wedding was an easy yes from the start," Lauren says. While wedding planning has certainly had its busy moments, the couple's organization—and a detailed spreadsheet—has helped keep everything on track. More importantly, Lauren says the experience has reminded them just how supportive their loved ones are! "Our vendors have honestly been amazing to work with, which has made the whole process a lot smoother than I expected," Lauren shares. "We are really just trying to take things in as they come and enjoy this process together!"
